In Brief. Good points. Very easy to use, good clear images, excellent flash and face recognition. Bad points - Only one, It's the first camera I have owned without a viewfinder. Perhaps most people don't use them these days anyway, but felt a little odd to me. Overall Best point and shoot camera I have owned by a long way. I especially like being able to hook this powershot model to the PC to take professional tripod images including time lapse all via remote PC control Would I have another? - Yes Would I reccommend to a friend? - Yes! Has made me see why Canon are worth that extra few pounds of your hard earned cash.
I bought this camera as unlike my other compact digicam it has both manual exposure and manual focus. In this it succeeds well, and I've been very happy with the results. It takes excellent pictures and with a little practice I find the interface easy to use. Not 5* though, as I hint in the title. Like a lot of cameras these days there's no viewfinder, and outdoors in the sunshine you can't see what's going on. Out of the sun though, the screen is large and clear. All the usual features and more - 10x optical zoom, a good anti-shake, plenty of manual control (or full auto, or various scene modes). Spot metering (though the spot isn't really small enough) as well as matrix and centre-weighted. Histogram available after taking the picture, but no live histogram. Focuses close (1cm). You can add a telephoto adaptor, but unfortunately not a wide-angle (which would be much more use). Bulkier than some of the latest models, but still a pretty good choice for those more experienced photographers who want the control they are used to with an SLR.Read full review
IVE BEEN USING MY DAUGHTERS SX110 FOR A LITTLE WHILE NOW.IF SIMPLICITY IS YOUR THING THEN THIS CAMERA IS FOR YOU.THIS CAMERA IS AIMED AT THOSE WHO WANT SIMPLICITY WHILST IT HAS ADVANCED FEATURES TO KEEP US MORE SERIOUS USERS HAPPY. THE BUILD QUALITY IS EXCELLENT AND ALL THE CONTROL BUTTONS ARE SPACED OUT NICELY.THE BIG LCD IS BRIGHT AND CLEAR,AND THE FACE DETECTION WHEN TAKING A SHOT WORKS SUPERBLY.A GOOD ZOOM LENGTH IS ALSO OFFERED GREAT FOR GETTING IN NICE AND CLOSE. I REALLY CANT FAULT THIS CAMERA.AS IT DELIVERS THE GOODS IN WHAT IT DOES.ALTHOUGH ITS A COMPACT IT GIVES A BIG CAMERA PERFORMANCE.AND AS THE SAYING GOES IT DOES EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN.10/10
Pros: + Compatible with CHDK (Canon Hack Development Kit) - lets you shoot in RAW and adds many functionality to the original firmware. + Manual mode, with manual focus. + User Friendly + Design + Zoom 10x + Picture quality + Good video quality (for its resolution) + Nice and big LCD Cons: - Zoom is noisy - Cannot zoom in movie mode, unless you have CHDK (only digital by default) - High ISO is very grainy - Video in the dark are very grainy - No viewfinder, everything is on LCD.. so the battery life is not very good. Very good compact for those who doesn't have the money to buy a DSLR.
Can't fault this camera. Spent a lot of time reading reviews and choosing it. I wanted a pocket camera with manual settings and a big screen. I got the lot with this and more. The pictures are incredible. I use it at work for taking magazine pictures instead of a big Canon SLR - and our design team asked me what I had changed as the pictures were BETTER. All I do is point and squirt now with not time wasting. Cannot recommend this camera enough. If I had to make a small moan it would be that it is a little heavy on battery. But this is because of the big screen and powerful flash. Oh, and it doesn't have a battery power meter. Buy hey! That's nothing compared to its plus points!
